Going Extreme

Sadly one of our Pastors is leaving. Pastor Mike and his family are heading off for a God-sized adventure in Williston, ND. We will miss them and we are sad to see them go, but at the same time, we are thrilled to send them off to follow God's calling in their lives.  A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I could make a cake for their farewell party.

My first idea for the cake was to do a big snow blower! Then I thought about a giant stack of jelly beans (he loves them). But I wanted to incorporate their entire family because they would all be missed. So I decided on a stack of suitcases with stickers to represent their past and future:

His wife is a wonderful vocalist, so I hand painted a sheet of music:

His oldest son had a Perry cake for his last birthday, so I added Perry the Platypus:

His youngest had a creepy crawly cake with lizards and spiders. I didn't want to gross anyone out, so I stuck with the lizard:

For Mike (here comes the extreme part) I made a string of working Christmas lights! I was so excited to be able to make them actually work!

On the back of the suitcases, one last nod to Pastor Mike:

Here are some more photos of the cake:

All in all, I was very happy with how this cake turned out. It was a lot of work (the most I have ever put into one cake), but worth every second. Farewell to the entire Skor family; we love you, we will miss you, but we can't wait to hear what God is doing through you in your next adventure!

Trish before I read your comment I was thinking the same thing. I think with a partner you could easily do this in 8 hours. (did I mention I was in Denver where its filmed ;-)
